May Newsletter/Update from the Executive Director

Happy May everyone!

We hope that everyone is doing well and staying healthy. April has really flown by for us as we’ve been learning to navigate this different and difficult time. We understand how stressful this has been for families working long hours, balancing kids attending different online schools with various schedules and serving as the support system for many. We are very thankful for our LEAGUE families and we are doing our best to show support and maintain open communication with all of you. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

All of our teachers are missing their students and looking forward to the day when we can all code together on campus safely again.  We don’t know when that will be yet, but we are doing our best to plan for it following all local, state, and federal guidelines and practicing patience.

Each week our teaching staff meets to think about how we are doing, when we might start classes again – once the powers that be say we can – and what modifications we might need to make when we do.  Everyone must be safe and we do not want to contribute to the spread of the virus in any way.  We will likely start with some modifications to classes like smaller class sizes, hand-washing before and after classes, etc.

We can at least tell you the date that classes certainly will NOT start before.  When enough new info comes in to warrant moving that goal post, we will do our best to give you plenty of notice.  As of today, we are certain the absolute earliest we could consider starting in-person classes is July 1.  Please remember this is a current BEST-CASE scenario.  It may well be pushed back more than once as new information and guidelines are provided. We are hoping to see you all again sooner rather than later!

At this time, you do not have to do anything.  When we have a firm reopening date for classes every student will get an online form to complete to let us know if they will be able to rejoin us in class or prefer to stay online for now.

Keep an eye on FB and the website for announcements about online camps, classes and cyberslams too!

Stay Safe and Healthy,
Sarah Tuakli Cooper, Executive Director

Sarah Tuakli Cooper, Executive Director

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) – update 2

Dear LEAGUE Friends and Families,

As the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spreads, and the media coverage continues to escalate, many people are anxious about what is happening.  The LEAGUE is following the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and County of San Diego’s recommendations on COVID-19 and will ensure our community is regularly updated with steps we are taking. A the moment our focus is on prevention and preparedness. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@jointheleague.org or 858-284-0481.

Students, teachers, or staff who have a travel history over the course of the last 14 days to an area identified by the CDC as Level 3 Travel Health Notice (currently China, Iran, Italy and South Korea) should be excluded from attending classes for 14 days, beginning the day after they left. Additionally, students, teachers and staff who have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 should be excluded for 14 days from the day of their last exposure.

●      Wash hands frequently.
●      Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
