GIVING TUESDAY 2020

HELPING KIDS EVERYWHERE BECOME PROGRAMMERS

On December 1st, 2020, The LEAGUE will be participating in GivingTuesday, a global day of generosity. GivingTuesday emphasizes opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection and kindness even while practicing physical distancing.

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is an opportunity to honor your community by giving back. In contrast to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this holiday embodies generosity and unity.

Giving Tuesday is held on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year, Giving Tuesday will be celebrated on December 1, 2020.

Why is this Giving Tuesday special for the LEAGUE?

This Giving Tuesday, we have paired up with a generous donor who is willing to match every donation (up to $15,000) that we receive!

For one day only, donors will have the opportunity to double their impact.

What will my donations be used for?

The LEAGUE of Amazing Programmers is a nonprofit computer coding school that offers free classes to under-resourced and underrepresented youth in San Diego. When you donate to our scholarship program, you ensure that bright young minds receive:

  • Free tuition for Java coding classes for kids in 5th-12th grade
  • Laptops and a secure Wi-Fi connection
  • Weekly tech support from our caring and patient staff
  • A safe space for kids to build confidence in their technological skills
  • The opportunity to gain professional certification as a Java programmer
  • A direct entry path into the workforce!

Why do my donations make a larger impact during COVID-19?

Where schools once acted as a leveling field for students, virtual homeschooling has only amplified educational disparities for marginalized populations. Already, 46 of our scholarship students have been unable to continue classes since the pandemic lockdown.

When you donate to our scholarship program, you are combating the “digital divide” between wealthy and poor communities, and opening doors for under-resourced youth to excel in the realm of technology.
