"description": "This summer in the Robot Garage, League Labs students will use AI to give\nrobots capabilities that would normally take months of manual programming.\nLearn to use AI as a collaborator to figure out how to make robots see,\nnavigate, plan paths, and respond to their environment.",
"content": "
Students will work with physical robots in the League’s Robot Garage in San\nDiego, using AI tools to explore computer vision, path planning, sensor\nintegration, and autonomous behavior. The emphasis is on the discovery\nprocess — using AI to research approaches, generate and test code, interpret\nsensor data, and iterate toward working solutions.
\n
This is not a follow-the-instructions robotics class. Students will encounter\nreal problems (the robot doesn’t see the obstacle, the path planner gets\nstuck, the motor response is too slow) and use AI to help them understand why\nand figure out what to try next.
\n
By the end of the summer, students will have:
\n
\n
Hands-on experience programming physical robots with AI assistance
\n
Working knowledge of computer vision, path planning, and sensor-driven behavior
\n
A portfolio of robot capabilities they designed and implemented
\n
An understanding of how AI changes the process of solving hard engineering problems
\n
\n
Who it’s for: Students in grades 8–12 with some programming experience.\nInterest in robotics, electronics, or mechanical systems is more important\nthan extensive coding background. You should be comfortable getting your hands\ndirty.
\n
Format: Weekly in-person sessions at the Robot Garage (San Diego) plus\nonline skill clinics. Students work on shared robot platforms and contribute\ncapabilities that build on each other.
\n
Cost: Free
",
